Dyke House/Stranton/Grange NAP
The Dyke House / Stranton / Grange neighbourhood encompasses the Dyke House ward plus a small part of both the Stranton and Grange wards and, has a resident population of over 7,000 people living in around 3,000 households.
The community incorporates a good range of local facilities including a number of local shops situated throughout the area, with several schools located within the neighbourhood. Community facilities include the newly refurbished Avondale Centre at Dyke House School, the Brougham Centre attached to Brougham Primary School, The Annexe in Wharton Terrace, Chatham House in Chatham Road and the newly refurbished St. Oswald's Church Hall in Milbank Road. All of these provide a range of services and activities to the local community. A number of active Residents Associations represent the area.
St. Oswald's Church and the Mosque are also located within the neighbourhood in Brougham Terrace, along with Hartlepool Enterprise Centre which houses a wide range of small businesses, also based in Brougham Terrace.
The area has faced some fundamental changes in relation to the housing market. As part of the Housing Market Renewal (HMR) agenda, 280 properties have been demolished at the Chester Road site, which is now being redeveloped by Wimpey. Other sites earmarked for demolition as part of the HMR agenda are the Perth, Hurworth and Gray Streets, which comprise 200 properties, Raby Gardens East as well as the work ongoing in Easington Road.
