The Safer Hartlepool Partnership is a statutory partnership, and 5 statutory bodies - the Council, Police, Primary Care Trust, Fire Authority and Police Authority are accountable for the Safer Hartlepool Partnership's governance and performance. The consultation forum associated with the Partnership has a wide membership of local organisations with an interest in community safety issues, and the overall aim of the Safer Hartlepool Partnership is to

"Make Hartlepool a safer place by reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, and tackling drugs and alcohol misuse."

To achieve this aim, the Partnership manages the Community Safety Strategy in terms of priorities, budgets, resources and performance. On a wider level it is the Accountable Body to external agencies such as Government Office North East and it shares information and working practices with similar organisations across the region. The Strategy is aimed at:

·        reducing crime
·        reducing harm caused by illegal drugs and alcohol
·        improving neighbourhood safety and increasing public confidence
·        reducing fear of crime & anti-social behaviour and;
·        reducing offending & re-offending.

The Safer Hartlepool Partnership is implementing the Annual Youth Justice Plan which targets reducing and preventing youth crime, and also the annual Adult Drugs Treatment Plan and the Young People Specialist Substance Misuse Plan. The Partnership is also responsible for the town's Alcohol harm reduction strategy and domestic violence strategy.
