Skills Partnership
About the Skills Partnership
The Skills Partnership is working to ensure that Hartlepool has the skilled workforce it needs to compete in the global economy. Its aim is to ensure that "All children, young people, individuals, groups and organisations are enabled to achieve their full potential through equal access to the highest quality education, lifelong learning and training opportunities." The Partnership membership is drawn from key organisations and groups working to develop skills levels in Hartlepool and in the region. Meeting four times a year, the Partnership has administrative support provided by Hartlepool College of Further Education, with funds supplied in 2009/10 by the Working Neighbourhoods Fund.
To meets its aims, the Partnership delivers the Skills element of the Community Strategy and Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy, which include workforce development, improving adult skills, supporting the delivery of 14-19 education, developing higher level skills, and improving provision and coordination of information, advice & guidance. The Partnership ensures the Skills element of the Local Area Agreement are fit for purpose and on track and it works with the Economic Forum to increase skill levels amongst Hartlepool's current and future workforce and promote employers' investment in workforce development.
In developing its key areas of work into the future, the Skills Partnership will be striving to ensure employers get the skills they need, assisting adults into employment including Apprenticeships, and ensuring that skills development for young people reflect the needs of employers and individuals, such as the introduction of Diplomas. The Partnership also looks at progression to Advanced and Higher Level Skills, Work Based Learning, and achieving Academic and Vocational Excellence in Parallel. In addition to developing the physical Infrastructure, it also provides Adult Careers advice, working with the Voluntary Sector, Business and Enterprise North East, Jobcentre Plus, the Local Authority and the Skills Funding Agency to address skills issues.
